Celebrating Lilly and Evie’s amazing fundraising achievement

Tuesday 20 April 2021

During lockdown Lilly (age 8) and Evie (age 6) have been ‘travelling the world' by eating traditional foods based on the movie they were watching. On a “trip” to India they watched Like stars on Earth, which features a young boy with Dyslexia, showing his journey and reactions. This touched Lilly and Evie and inspired them to do something to help make a difference.

Lilly and Evie wanted to help raise awareness of dyslexia and dyscalculia, to help prevent children struggling in school due to lack of correct support. They thought it would be good to make others aware of the impact it can have and how the correct support can make a difference. They also liked the idea of raising money to help support schools in recognising the signs and being able to assess and support those that need it. After giving it some thought, they decided a sponsored walk would help them raise awareness and funds for the British Dyslexia Association.

“Once the “stay local” rule was lifted we travelled a little further to do a 10.5 mile walk in the countryside. This made it a little more challenging as Lilly and Evie are used to walking around flat York!!!

I cannot describe how proud I am of them completing the challenge. It was tough, but they did so well to just keep going.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed their challenge and raised an amazing £355. They are now keen to do more walking and have their sights on the three peaks!!”

We would like to say a huge thank you and well done to Lilly and Evie on their incredible accomplishment.
