COVID-19 information

Tuesday 17 March 2020

Updated 6 April 2021

The following changes are for the period from January to 30 April 2021.

Following the most recent statement by the Prime Minister of a third national lockdown for England, the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) has updated our guidance and procedures to keep our staff, volunteers, suppliers, customers and supporters safe whilst respecting the importance of assessments for specific learning difficulties.

In response to the government announcement, we have changed how the Assessment service is currently run. The assessments which have been booked up to April 30th will no longer be BDA Assessments but ones which are carried out by BDA Approved Assessors. This change enables all involved to make decisions based on your own personal circumstances. It will mean that where assessors are comfortable to continue with assessing and where families are also happy to proceed, assessments can take place. The decision will be yours, the BDA will not be involved. The BDA will be contacting all assessors and clients to check if they would like to proceed or not.

Assessments will no longer take place in the Bracknell office and alternative arrangements will need to be made if the assessment goes ahead. The office is closed to members of the public and most of the BDA staff.

Government guidelines must be followed in all situations.

These changes have been made in response to COVID-19 and also indications from Assessors and Clients of a continuing need for assessments to take place. The change enables the decision to be taken by assessors and clients based on local information and in accordance with the government guidelines. It is a difficult time for us all and we hope that you remain safe and well.

Our office is not open to visitors. A skeleton staff are only attending under strict COVID-19 control measures.
